Please note, these Shinki Timber HB engineer boots on the whole do not have as much exaggerated grain as previous versions. The grain is more subtle even though you can still see it on many of the pairs but it is smoother and more uniform on the vamp in particular. Due to the nature of the leather being uncorrected the uppers are also quite mixed and show signs of discolouratiuon in places along with natural hide marks from the horses life. The toe and foot vamps though are all clean and matching left to right. Some love it, some not so please get in touch if you’d like pictures of your size before ordering please. (The Pair pictured are 9 US and we have added images of uppers from other pairs also to give you an idea of what you might see on the uppers/ shaft).
The extremely popular John Lofgren engineer boots have been given the Shinki Hikaku treatment and a flat welt to give them a more dressy look. It works so well! Shinki Hikaku is known as one of the best tanneries in the world for Horse leather and is showcased so well on these engineers. The leather is stiff to begin with in the foot mostly with an almost shell like feel that will quickly relax, soften and shape as you break them in.
The original lasts: Are very shapely, have a nice slim waist with a sleek rounded toe, are snug throughout the foot (as they should be when sized correctly) with enough toe wiggle room.
Comfort: Is immediate. Padded footbed, well sized ankle straps for keeping heel slip to a minimum, great heel height, the width of the shaft is well balanced so you can still get your more tapered denims on and considering the materials and amount of heavy leather used, the weight is surprisingly light making them very comfortable for all day wear.
Construction & finish: The best materials and construction methods have been used in these boots, just see the DETAILS tab. The stitching is very neat and uniform, the heel well balanced and elegantly shaped and the sole trim is even and nicely done.
