The EB-01 engineer boots from Y’2 Leather are a slightly different take on a lot of engineers we see and try and it’s very welcome.
The leather is Y’2’s Eco Horsehide (in Olive incase you hadn’t spotted). Before handling, seeing and trying it we thought it was going to be super thick and stiff as it comes, how wrong we were! It is thick at 2mm but it is seriously comfortable and pliable from the get go. You only really experience the thickness in the shaft and that is also stiff enough to aide sliding your foot in but very pliable against the calf. Unlike some of the stiffer more vintage horsehides/ butts there is very minimal break in with it. The colour is a deep vibrant dark Olive, not for everyones tastes but is going to age beautifully.
The shape/ last is shapely, has more volume all over (again, a welcome point of difference) but doesn’t in anyway look bulky or cumbersome, it still looks fairly sleek and is a great fit for many a foot as it has a slight rounded munson shape to the waist and toe. This combined with soft leather makes them instantly one of the most comfortable engineers we have tried.
THEY ARE EASY TO GET ON! The volume in the instep and the slightly wider shaft opening make them a great pair for those that struggle to get engineers on. They are a bit wider in the shaft so for those who like super slim tapered bottoms you will see the leather moving about underneath the cloth until the shaft softens more and takes shape. Just a heads up.
Construction & finish: The best materials and construction methods have been used in these boots, just see the DETAILS tab. The stitching is very neat and uniform, the heel well balanced and elegantly shaped and the sole trim is even and nicely done.
Made in Japan. Take a look at the sizing tab.
